About US - Why rebuild New Orleans levees

Though not native to New Orleans, we formed a permanent bond with this great city after evacuating during freshman orientation at Tulane University. The enormous devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina was shocking, but even more disturbing was the fact that the worst effects of the tragedy were exacerbated by all-too-human mistakes. Revelations that the levee failures that had allowed floods into the city were a result of poor funding, planning, and construction forced us into action. We set up SaveBigEasy.org to ensure that New Orleans would be protected for the future and to make sure that such colossal mistakes would never again be repeated.

The Founder and President of the SaveBigEasy.org is Dan Hyman. Originally from Long Island, New York, Dan is an honors student at American University and is majoring in international studies
